Sam Raimi is officially coming back to the big screen with a new movie arriving that just got its first trailer. 20th Century Studios has officially debuted the first trailer for Send Help, the new survival thriller with a script from Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. The film stars Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien as coworkers who become stranded on a deserted island after their plane crashed in the middle of nowhere. They must work together and overcome their grievances to survive, but they find out that things get harder by the day. Send Help will be released in theaters on January 30, 2026.
Dennis Haysbert, Chris Pang, and Brad Flett will also be seen in Send Help, which is already drawing comparisons to the famous TV series, Lost. It’s also easy to see shades of Cast Away in Send Help, but it won’t be until the film releases early next year that we see which of these comparisons makes the most sense. Send Help star Rachel McAdams recently worked with Sam Raimi on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Dylan O’Brien is fresh off starring in the HBO Max original thriller, Caddo Lake, which was backed by M. Night Shyamalan.
Sam Raimi first made a name for himself in the 80s, directing the Evil Dead movies, and he’s also famous for directing Kevin Costner in For Love of the Game. He then shifted to a new phase of his career where he garnered acclaim for his work on the Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man movies, but it wasn’t until two years ago that he returned to Marvel in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. It’s unclear at this time if he will direct another superhero movie.
Sam Raimi’s Return to Marvel in 2023 Was Met Divisively
When Sam Raimi stepped back into the world of superhero movies to direct the Doctor Strange sequel, it seemed the perfect fit. He took over directorial duties from Scott Derrickson, who is also a fellow renowned horror director. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was mostly well-liked by critics and audiences, earning scores of 73% from the former and 85% from the latter on Rotten Tomatoes. It also grossed $955 million at the box office against a $400 million budget. Still, some fans felt the movie didn’t live up to expectations as a true multiversal blowout.
