Chris Evans will always be known for playing Captain America in the MCU, but not long ago, he teamed up with a fellow Marvel star for a critically panned box office bomb that’s finding a second life on streaming. Evans stars alongside Aubrey Plaza (Agatha All Along) and Margaret Qualley(Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood) in Honey Don’t!, the whodunnit crime comedy following a small-town private eye who dives into a mysterious series of deaths tied to a local church. Honey Don’t recently began streaming on Peacock in America, and the film is already one of the top 10 most popular movies for the streamer.
Honey Don’t didn’t resonate with critics or audiences, which led to the film holding scores of 45% from the former and only 40% from the latter on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. Critics and audience criticized Honey Don’t for being extremely disjointed, and also not leaning into one aspect enough to make any of them worth watching. The film also struggled immensely at the box office, earning only $7 million against a $20 million budget. At least this streaming run is helping new fans discover the film who didn’t have the chance to see it in theaters.
Honey Don’t marks another solo directorial effort for Ethan Coen, one-half of the Coen brothers, who have delivered hits in the past like No Country for Old Men and The Big Lebowski. Last year, Coen also delivered Drive-Away Dolls, which stars Pedro Pascal, but that film also failed to find a home with critics or audiences and underperformed at the box office. Joel Coen most recently flew solo for The Tragedy of Macbeth, the Apple TV+ original film starring Denzel Washington.
Is Chris Evans in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?
Chris Evans has not been formally confirmed to have a role in Avengers: Doomsday, but it’s highly speculated that he’s involved in the film in some capacity. Marvel is good at keeping stars’ involvement under wraps, just like they did with Evans in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Considering Robert Downey Jr. is coming back to play Doctor Doom and Chris Hemsworth is back for another bout as Thor, it would be astounding not to see Evans utilized in some way. He could even play an evil variant of Captain America, like Captain HYDRA.
Be sure to watch Honey Don’t on Peacock and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
