IT: Welcome to Derry reveals Pennywise’s first terrifying attack in a scene shown at New York Comic Con. The prequel to IT (2017) and IT Chapter Two (2019) is based on the interlude chapters of the original Stephen King novel. The series will reveal more about the backstory of Derry, Maine and the evil entity commonly known as Pennywise.
Welcome to Derry‘s cast features Bill Skarsgård reprising the role of Pennywise, which he previously played in IT and IT Chapter Two. With the story set in 1962, 27 years before the events of IT in the movie timeline, there is also a new cast of children and adults in Derry.
During the clip shown at the Welcome to Derry panel, Pennywise torments one of the new characters, Lily, in horrifying fashion. In a grocery store, she sees a badly injured face inside a jar that she thinks is her father, only for it to be Pennywise. Check out a description of the clip below:
A girl (Lily) walking through the grocery store. It gets increasingly creepy — people watching her from around corners and in aisles, shelves moving and shifting around her. At one point it sounds like Pennywise says her name. Eventually she ends up trapped by a bunch of shelves lined with jars of pickles. One of them facing her has a slashed up face inside, and she says something awful: “Daddy?”
The face starts speaking to her, telling her to “give Daddy a kiss.” She tries to smash the jar, but then all the jars around her start flying off the shelves and smashing on the ground, revealing other rotten body parts that start to reform into her father, who gets closer and closer looking for a kiss. Right before it gets there, everything reverts to normal, and Lily is surrounded by the people from the store looking at her in concern/horror.
