Paramount+ has officially greenlit 9/12, a six-episode limited series starring and executive produced by Emmy and Tony winner Jeremy Strong. The project, long in development and delayed by regulatory hurdles during the Skydance–Paramount merger, is now on track to begin filming in summer 2026 for a 2027 release.
Written, directed, and executive produced by Tobias Lindholm (The Investigation) and co-written and executive produced by Frank Pugliese (House of Cards), 9/12 dramatizes the decade-long David vs. Goliath legal fight to secure nearly $1 billion in compensation for first responders who became gravely ill after the attacks of September 11th. Strong will be taking on the role Jason Smith, a composite lawyer character inspired by the real-life attorneys who fought for the little guy to try and get them what they were rightly owed.
“This project reminds us why storytelling matters,” said Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals at Paramount+. “Working with visionaries like Tobias, Frank, and Jeremy has set the tone for the kind of ambitious, resonant narratives Paramount+ will champion.”
In a lengthy statement, Strong reflected on the heroes at the heart of the story:
“9/12 is about the best of us — our first responders whose official response time on 9/11 was five seconds. It is about a moment of unity and togetherness in this divided country, when, amidst the wreckage, we rebuilt and rose again from the rubble. But it is also about the ways our institutions failed to respond to those heroes — whom we pledged we would never forget — in their moment of greatest need.
9/12 is a story about justice, about the restitution of human dignity and about the real-life heroes of this country who we must never forget. Tobias Lindholm is one of the world’s greatest writer/directors and has the depth, restraint, integrity, clarity and power to honor this story.”
