As the episode progresses, it is revealed that the serial killer is none other than the infamous Ted Bundy. They first question Jerry Brudos in prison, who then leads them to Gein. They decide to visit Gein to talk to him about it. Eventually, Gein helps out a sheriff with a clue that leads to the capture of Ted Bundy.
Due to this, some viewers remain confused after the end, wondering whether Ed Gein really helped capture Ted Bundy. While speaking to Netflix’s Tudum about the ending, co-creator Ian Brennan spoke about how Gein’s dark legacy influenced the world. “It’s the most tonally challenging part of the show to me in that he’s not horrified by it,” Brennan said, adding, “He sort of loves the fact that he made a mark.”
