As a New ‘Ice Age’ Sequel Gains Steam, the Original Fan-Favorite Classic Is Climbing the Global Streaming Charts

Ice Age(2002) has surged into the global Top 10 on Disney+ following the announcement of its upcoming sequel, Ice Age: Boiling Point, slated for release in 2027. The original film is now trending in multiple countries, including but not limited to Barbados, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. The film is currently trending at the #2 spot on Disney+ in the United States as well and has consistently maintained the position since August 28, 2025.

Ice Age was an unexpected box office success in 2002 and grossed over $383 million worldwide against a production budget of just $59 million. The story followed Manny the woolly mammoth (Ray Romano), Diego the saber-toothed tiger (Denis Leary), and Sid the sloth (John Leguizamo), a trio of prehistoric creatures who set out on an adventure after coming across an orphaned human baby. The success of the first installment resulted in four direct sequels, a series of shorts on Disney+, and a spin-off film titled The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild(2022).

The latest Ice Age film was Ice Age: Collision Course, which was released in 2016 and grossed $408.5 million worldwide. The franchise as a whole has grossed $3.2 billion since its inception and has become one of the most successful animated franchises in film history. Disney announced the title of the sixth Ice Age film at Destination D23 2025, which took place from August 29 to August 31.

Ray Romano, Queen Latifah, and John Leguizamo Return for ‘Ice Age: Boiling Point’

Disney originally announced the upcoming Ice Age sequel in November 2024. In a clip, which Disney shared on their social media accounts, Romano is seen donning winter clothes and a blanket as he hints at the big news. “Did the AC break or something?” joked the actor as he shivered in the cold. Romano was joined by Queen Latifah, who voices Ellie, the woolly mammoth. Leguizamo closes out the video and reveals that the herd is coming back to theaters soon.

The film’s official logline reads: “Ice Age: Boiling Point is a dinosaur-and-lava-filled madcap adventure that takes Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, Scrat (Chris Wedge), and the rest of the herd to visit never-before-seen corners of the treacherous Lost World.” Ice Age: Boiling Point will also bethe first film in the franchise to be released in theaters since Disney acquired 21st Century Fox’s film and television assets in 2019.

Disney also announced its next original animated film titled Hexedat the D23 event. That film follows an awkward teenage boy and his Type-A mom after they discover that he possesses magical powers. As per a news report, Josie Trinidad and Jason Hand are directing the feature, with Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones producing. Hexed is slated to hit theaters in November 2026.
