Devon Walker is the first cast member announced not to return to Saturday Night Live ahead of its 51st season. Saturday Night Live first aired in 1975, and SNL season 51 premieres on October 4th. SNL has discovered and launched numerous comedic icons, from Chevy Chase and Mike Myers, to Will Farrell and Kristen Wiig, to Bill Hader and Tina Fey.
On Instagram, Devon Walker posted the caption “me and baby broke up ❤️”. Along with many photos from the set of Saturday Night Live in the post, Walker wrote a brief statement about leaving the show. Part of the statement referred to his relationship with Saturday Night Live, saying “Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell.”
What Devon Walker’s Exit Means For SNL Season 51
Devon Walker may not be the only change for Saturday Night Live season 51. Just a few days prior to this announcement, there was news from executive producer Lorne Michaels himself that the SNL‘s season 51 cast would be shaken up. Saturday Night Live’s 50th season cast did not change much, but it appears major changes will be coming for season 51.
Walker joined Saturday Night Live in 2022, and he exits after three season since 2022. He was a strong skit performer with notable impressions. It was unclear whether Walker left the show by his own choice, but he had fun with the idea and titled his statement on his Instagram “Wait…did he quit or get fired?”

Saturday Night Live constantly changes its cast, so although it’s sad to see members leave, it is expected. Devon Walker exiting SNL is not all that surprising as he was one of the cast members with the least amount of airtime.
I think that what makes Saturday Night Live so successful is that the show continually evolves and isn’t dependent on one individual. Major cast upheavals continually refresh SNL, which is why it has kept its relevance since 1975.
Devon Walker’s exit may be the first of more cast announcements heading into the premiere of Saturday Night Live season 51 in October.
