August 26 Is Going To Be A Huge Day For Xbox Game Pass

This year, Xbox Game Pass has been hosting a variety of in-house games, as well as third-party titles, and 2025 isn’t over yet. In the next few months, Microsoft will close out the year with several big AAA releases, including TheOuter Worlds 2 in October.

Before that happens, though, a classic is returning to Xbox platforms for the first time since its original re-release in 2015, which remastered the game for the then-new Xbox One. Now, it’s coming to Xbox Series X/S, PC, and PS5, as well as Xbox Game Pass.

Gears Of War: Reloaded Is A Day-One Release On Game Pass

When Gears of War: Reloaded arrives on August 26, it’ll be a day one Xbox Game Pass launch title. Think of it as an Ultimate Edition of the prior Ultimate Edition, with enhanced frame rates and resolution for modern platforms. It’ll also be available on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and cloud devices via Xbox Game Pass.

I had the chance to play Gears of War: Reloaded on multiple platforms at Summer Game Fest (SGF) this year (including the ROG Ally and PS5), and was impressed at how much sharper and more responsive the game was. Hopefully, that performance extends to the core game and multiplayer.

The real question is: will people want to replay Gears of War‘s campaign for the third time? Although it may be fresh in some people’s minds, having not played it since its original 2006 launch, others have experienced it multiple times. We’ll see when it comes to concurrent/active player counts when the game arrives on August 26.

The PS5 Version Will Launch At The Same Time

Interestingly, Gears of War: Reloaded will launch on PS5 on top of the typical Microsoft platforms of Xbox consoles and PC. It was particularly strange to play Gears on PS5 myself at SGF, but Microsoft seems to have fully understood the assignment, and it runs well, even on a regular PS5.

Whenever a massive re-release of a classic shooter emerges, there’s always concern over the stability of online play, whether it’s co-op or competitive multiplayer in the case of Gears of War: Reloaded. While Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a notorious example of a Microsoft-published multiplayer game with a buggy launch, there are many others from various publishers that have experienced similar issues before and after.

The jury is out on whether or not Gears of War: Reloadedwill have a stable multiplayer environment, and given how crucial that is to its long-term success, I hope they nail it.
