‘Cobra Kai’ Fan-Favorite Teases His Involvement in Netflix’s Live-Action ‘One Piece’ Series

Did Xolo Maridueña just hint at his next Netflix project? After starring in the Cobra Kai series and confirming his involvement in the upcoming Blue Beetle animated show, the actor teased that he might be part of the live-action adaptation of One Piece. As the show is scheduled to release its next installment in 2026, there’s a chance it could make a surprise appearance.

In a recent interview, Maridueña was asked if he’s going to be part of the One Piece live-action series, as he’s friends with Iñaki Godoy, who plays Monkey D. Luffy in the show. Maridueña plays coy with his response, saying that he’s happy for his friend and praises how he portrays the character. He also says he’s excited to watch Season 2 when it comes out. But his final line in his answer caught everyone’s attention.

“I’m looking for ways to work with Iñaki, both in and out of One Piece.”

At the moment, there is no official announcement on whether Maridueña will star in One Piece, but he has been a popular fan pick for Fire Fist Ace — a vitally important character from the original anime and manga. The show has made numerous casting announcements since Season 1 came out in 2023, such as Mikaela Hoover playing Tony Tony Chopper, Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday, Joe Manganiello as Mr. 0, and David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3. The trailer for One Piece Season 2 has recently been released, teasing new locations, characters, and creatures that the Straw Hats will face as they make their way towards the Grand Line to find the One Piece.

Xolo Maridueña’s Acting Career, Explained

Before he secured his breakout role as Miguel Diaz in Cobra Kai in 2018, Maridueña started his career in 2012 when he appeared in the third season of Parenthood. Since then, he has landed numerous projects, including Twin Peaks, Fast & Furious Spy Racers, and the Rush Hour TV series. In 2023, the young actor made his DCU debut in Blue Beetle, where he played the lead role, Jamie Reyes. Fortunately, his superhero career isn’t over following James Gunn‘s reboot of the DCU, as he will be reprising the role in an upcoming animated series.

Currently, Maridueña stars in the English dub of Sakamoto Days, playing Heisuke Mashimo, and has recently voiced Brainy in the 2025 Smurfs movie. Despite having a handful of credits under his belt, Maridueña has won a handful of awards, including “Best Younger Actor in a Film” at the 2024 Saturn Awards and “Favorite Male TV Star (Family)” at the 2025 Kids’ Choice Awards.

One Piece Season 2 is scheduled to come out in 2026. In the meantime, you can stream Season 1 on Netflix and the anime series on Crunchyroll. Follow Collider to keep up to date with the latest updates.
