Erin told Soap Opera Digest, “They’re snarking and trying to get back at Audra,” describing it as a shared mission that has brought Claire and Kyle closer. Claire blames Audra for attempting to seduce Kyle and sees her as the main instigator in Victor’s scheme.
Erin said Claire’s strong moral compass makes this storyline challenging because “her moral compass is so strong that it’s telling her things that her heart doesn’t agree with.” She explained that Claire’s past, including being brainwashed by her Aunt Jordan to destroy the Newmans, has shaped her. Since learning she is Cole and Victoria’s daughter, Claire has embraced what Erin called her “really good values.”
The actress noted that Claire has shown a darker side before, referencing when she plotted to remove Jordan after she allied with Ian Ward. “Her ability to justify things is also really interesting,” Erin said, adding that Audra’s actions have crossed lines that could push Claire toward a similar mindset. On what “an eye for an eye” could mean, Erin said, “Maybe it wouldn’t be exactly the same scheme in her turn, but something that hurts [Audra] just as much. Maybe losing someone that she cares about? I don’t know. Maybe not the same kind of tactics, but the same kind of result.”
