Disney has announced its newest Cars animated series, which serves a spin-off to Pixar’s beloved blockbuster franchise. After three years since the released of Cars on the Road, Disney Television Animation and Pixar are once again teaming up for Cars: Lightning Racers. The new show is slated to make its debut sometime in 2027 on Disney Jr. and Disney+.
“Building on Disney and Pixar’s beloved Cars franchise, Cars: Lightning Racers follows Lightning McQueen as he gears up for all-new adventures in Radiator Springs alongside his hilarious best friend Mater and new friends thrill-seeking drag car Pipes and mud-loving monster truck Miles,” reads the synopsis.
Who are returning for Cars: Lightning Racers?
Just like Cars on the Road, Cars: Lightning Racers will also feature the returning of the film franchise’s original cast including Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen, Larry the Cable Guy as Mater, Tony Shalhoub as Luigi, Cheech Marin as Ramone, Bob Peterson as Chick Hicks and John Ratzenberger as Mack.

The new show will also introduced new characters portrayed by Leah Lewis (Elemental) as Pipes and Yuri Lowenthal (Marvel Rivals video game) as Miles, with Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary) as the voice of Ms. Blinker. It hails from executive producers Travis Braun and Frank Montagna. The creative team also includes story editor Dana Starfield and supervising director Nathan Chew.
The animated franchise was created by John Lasseter. It started with 2006’s Cars movie which was followed by two more sequels in 2011 and 2017, as well as two spinoff films titled Planes in 2013 and Planes: Fire & Rescue in 2014. Due to its success, the Cars films had earned a combined worldwide gross of more than $1.4 billion.
