20 Years Later, ‘The Dark Knight’s Batman and Joker Face Off With New Collectibles

Even though The Dark Knighttrilogy began two decades ago, it still contains three of the best comic book films in history. Its middle chapter, The Dark Knight, is often in conversation with some of the best films of all time. That has a lot to do with Christopher Nolan‘s genius, but it also has to do with Christian Bale’s Batmanand Heath Ledger’s Joker. Now the pair of cinematic arch-rivals can battle it out with new figures from Mezco Toyz.

A part of Mezco’s One:12 Collective scale series, these premium figures show Bale’s Batman and Ledger’s Clown Prince of Crime in all their glory. Shown off at San Diego Comic-Con last month, Batman is seen in his second updated costume for the trilogy designed by Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman). Joker, on the other hand, is seen in his muted purple suit from the sequel. These Dark Knight figures now join The Batman, Batman: The Animated Series, and Batman: Year One in Mezco’s One:12 Collective collection.

“You Either Die a Hero…”

While Batman Begins was all about hope and overcoming one’s fears, The Dark Knight flipped that concept on its head. Focusing on escalation, corruption and chaos, Batman’s battle with Joker pushed the DC hero to his limits. This was all the while the new district attorney, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), got caught in the crossfire.

With a killer 94% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, The Dark Knight is still the gold standard of the comic book genre. It also remains one of the best crime thrillers of all time. With the character in a new cinematic era with Matt Reeves’ The Batmanuniverse and the DCU’s The Brave and The Bold, there’s a lot that DC Studios can learn from this trilogy as a whole. Especially when it comes to the countless weighty performances. Ledger’s Joker, for example, is a threat that can’t be matched; the actor’s legacy lives on through The Dark Knight’s action figures, Funko Pops, and the various physical media releases.
