Vin Diesel fans, if you’re itching to see the actor in action before Fast X Part Two arrives, August is your month. A year after The Fast and Furious came out, Diesel did another action film that turned into a franchise. Though it’s not as big as the former, the film found its way into fans’ hearts and made an impact. So, while we wait for the next film in the Fast franchise, try binging another beloved franchise at your leisure.
Per ComicBook, xXx and its follow-up xXx: State of the Union will drop on Peacock starting August 1. Helmed by Rob Cohen, the movie follows Diesel as former extreme sports athlete Xander “XXX” Cage, who is notorious for his death-defying stunts. Betting he can succeed where other conventional spies have failed, Xander is recruited by NSA to become a different kind of undercover agent. When enlisted for a covert mission, Xander must use all his extreme skills to combat an organized and ruthless enemy far beyond the scope of his experience.
The movie was a box office success, earning $277.4 million at the box office against an $88 million budget. It was loved for its action sequences and performances, bagging a 48% Rotten Tomatoes rating from the critics and a slightly better 58% from the audiences. The movie also stars Samuel L. Jackson, William Hope, Danny Trejo, Asia Argento, and Marton Csokas. The success of the film was followed up with a sequel, xXx: State of the Union.
What Is ‘xXx: State of the Union’About?
Though xXx was a success, both Cohen and Diesel did not return for the sequel due to scripting issues. Instead, Die Another Day director Lee Tamahori was brought in to direct, andIce Cube took over as the new Triple X agent. The movie follows Darius Stone (Ice Cube), an ex-con who is enlisted by NSA Agent Augustus Gibbons (Jackson) when a group of terrorists infiltrates government ranks, and a high-ranking official is training the group. Thinking he can trust no one in the government, Gibbons is convinced he is the only man for the job and Stone has to rise to the occasion. The movie did not do well at the box office, garnering $71.1 million at the box office against a $60 million budget. The critics gave it a 17% Rotten Tomatoes score, while the audiences gave it a much better score of 32%.
