This Fan-Favorite ‘Love Island’ Breakup Is So Brutal, Everyone’s Been Left Shook

Love Island fans’ worst dreams just came true. Fan-favorite Season 6 islanders JaNa Craig and Kenny Rodriguez have officially called it quits — and the two have finally broken their silence. This comes after days of fan conspiracies and theories about the split, which have absolutely shattered the internet. Fans had a feeling that whatever happened between the two was bad — but it looks like the breakup was far worse than anybody had thought.

Following days of fan speculation, JaNa first broke her silence, posting a statement to her Instagram story. She began by thanking everyone for their love and support before writing, “Please know that I have seen all the breakup theories andnone have matched up to how terrible, disgusting and disappointing it truly is. Discovering that someone you loved isn’t who you thought they were and that the relationship you thought you were building hasn’t been genuine since day one has been truly devastating.” She finished the statement with, “Thank you for respecting my privacy and please know as a child of God, I will always be okay.”

Shortly after, Kenny posted a statement of his own on Instagram, “The past few days have been incredibly difficult. I’ve been quietly sitting with a lot of emotions and doing my best to process everything privately. Breakups are never easy, especially in the public eye. Sometimes, despite how deeply you care for someone, you come to the hard truth that the relationship was not something that could last long-term.” He added, “I’ll always be grateful for the time we shared and the memories we created. I release this chapter with no ill will, only a hope that JaNa’s path forward brings her nothing but happiness.”

The breakup speculation began when the pair made some noticeable changes to their social media profiles. Both JaNa and Kenny removed one another from their Instagram bios, plus Kenny disappeared from JaNa’s feed. Then came the mass unfollowing. Most of the cast of Love Island Season 6 have unfollowed Kenny on Instagram. It started with PPG, JaNa, Serena Paige, and Leah Kateb, before Miguel Harichi, Kordell Beckham, Kaylor Martin, and Liv Walker were all added to that list — and it just keeps growing.

JaNa entered the villa as an OG islander, first forming connections with Coye Simmons and Connor Newsum. However, they never really went anywhere. Then came Kenny, who had been the kind of man she had been manifesting all along. The two clicked right off the bat, but despite their instant chemistry, Kenny coupled up with Catherine Marshall in Casa Amor. After a lot of hurt and an emotional fireside conversation, the two rekindled their romance. The pair, beloved by fans, made it to the finale where they placed third. However, the challenges they faced in the villa couldn’t prepare them for what they would face in the outside world.

Post-Love Island, the two were managing long-distance. JaNa lived in Las Vegas, he lived in Dallas. As we see play out in Beyond The Villa, the two relocate to Los Angeles — but they don’t live together. We see them navigate an odd living situation — living in the same apartment building, but in separate units. Kenny wanted to take it slow with cohabitation, but JaNa couldn’t wait to live together. This conflict, along with Kenny’s demeanor throughout the series so far, has led fans to speculate that something was off between the two — and they were right.

Although the pair haven’t directly addressed any of the breakup theories and rumors, including fan speculation that they had a blowout fight at David Dobrik’s birthday party over Kenny’s alleged sidepiece, she confirmed in her statement that “… None have matched up to how terrible, disgusting and disappointing it truly is.” According to TMZ, the pair broke up on Sunday, July 27, after a year of dating.
