24 Years After Its Release, Denzel Washington’s Beloved 74% Rotten Tomatoes Oscar-Winner Is Back on the Streaming Charts

From his first Academy Award win for Best Supporting Actor in Glory to his starring role in Spike Lee‘s epic biopic drama, Malcolm X, Denzel Washington has risen to Hollywood royalty status with hard graft and enormous talent. One of the finest to ever do it, his filmography is bursting at the seams with memorable projects, with an impressive portion leading to Academy Awards success. One such Academy Award winner, and one widely considered Washington’s finest to date, is a streaming hit in the U.S. yet again: Training Day.

Washington stars alongside Ethan Hawke in the 2001 crime thriller Training Day, in a role that earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor against a stacked 74th ceremony line-up that included Russell Crowe‘s performance in A Beautiful Mind, Will Smith‘s titular role in Ali, and Sean Penn‘s devastating turn in I Am Sam. As of July 21, almost 25 years since its first release, Training Day is proving as popular as ever, officially entering the top ten most-streamed movies on Paramount+ in the U.S., per FlixPatrol.

Training Day is the eighth most-streamed movie at the time of writing, which is made even more impressive when you realize what eye-catching competition it currently faces. At #10 and #9 on the list are the chick-flick classics Mean Girls and Clueless, with Training Day, of course, at #8, and Jason Bateman‘s Extract at #7. Jamie Foxx‘s Sleepless is at #6, with Tom Cruise‘s beloved legacy sequel Top Gun: Maverick at #5, and the 2011 legal thriller The Lincoln Lawyer at #4. A Walk Among the Tombstones is at #3, with Jack Quaid‘s hit 2025 action film Novocaine at #2, and the top spot going to the Bruce Willis-led Gasoline Alley.

How Did ‘Training Day’ Perform at the Box Office?

It’s easy for 2025 film fans to look back onTraining Day and call it a masterpiece in retrospect, but how did the film actually fare with 2001 audiences? The answer is with moderate success, with Training Day officially turning a reported $45 million budget into just over $100 million worldwide. At the domestic box office, Training Day accumulated $76 million in revenue, with just $28 million coming from overseas markets. The movie managed to squeeze onto the list of the top 40 highest-grossing movies of 2001 worldwide, finishing at #38, but sadly now ranks as low as #1,803 on the all-time list.

Training Day is streaming now on Tubi. Make sure to check out Collider for more streaming stories.
