James Gunn‘sSuperman is currently flying high in theaters. In just two weeks of release, the first film of the new DCU has already made over $400 million at the worldwide box office. David Corenswet has also quickly asserted himself on the historic list of actors who have put on the Man of Steel’s iconic cape. Now, as the DC titan continues to soar, McFarlane Toys has unveiled their latest Superman figure.
A part of McFarlane’s DC Direct resin statue line, this 1:10th scale piece is based on artwork by Clayton Henry. The Superman Red and Blue statue stands at 6.3 inches tall. It depicts Clark Kent ripping off his suit to reveal the famous Superman suit “S” chest emblem. McFarlane has done a ton of Superman statues in the past, but this is a unique set given that Clark is mostly in his civilian reporter attire. The sepia-toned blue and red also make the figure stand out in a crowd.
DC Comics Is on Top of the World
While DC films have been trending downwards financially since the first half of this decade, Superman reminded moviegoers of what this popular comic brand can do with the right heroic tools. From the great ensemble cast to the thrilling direction to the nostalgic musical score, the new incarnation of the DCU is off to a hot start.
The toys were also a big part of the film’s success. McFarlane led the way with their line of seven-inch scale DC Multiverse figures. Not only did Corenswet’s Superman get some love, Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), and Metamorpho (Anthony Cardigan) were immortalized in plastic as well. Their throwback smaller-scale Super Powers line also included heroes like Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), and villains like The Engineer (Maria Gabriela de Faría) and Ultraman. There are still a few major characters they haven’t done, like Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) and Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), so hopefully they’ll be included in their collection in the near future.
“Superman’ Is Just the First Step
You can get your tickets for Superman now on Fandango’s website. However, this is just the first film in a larger universe. Films like Supergirl and Clayface will soon be included with shows like Lanterns and Peacemaker Season 2. Before your race to the theater, you can pre-order McFarlane’s Henry Superman Resin statue on their website for $129.99 USD. The figure is estimated to be released in January.
