The Ice Age franchise, worth billions of dollars, is over two decades old, having been in existence since the release of the first movie in 2002. Created by Michael J. Wilson, the franchise has faced its fair share of criticism over the years due to its scientific inaccuracies; however, it remains a favorite among lots of viewers who grew up with it and never miss the chance to revisit the adventures of the Herd. Luckily, a major streaming platform is providing fans with the opportunity to enjoy a few of the franchise’s productions starting next month, which will soon be the highlight of this summer for many, even though it’s unclear how long the icy treat will last.
Five productions in the Ice Age franchise will be available onHulu starting August 1, including the first four consecutive main installments, as well as a TV special. These include 2002’s Ice Age, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown (2006), Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009), Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), and Ice Age: The Great Egg-scapade (2016). They were all produced by the now-defunct Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Animation, with the latter most films set after the events of the fourth film, and four months before the events of the fifth film, Ice Age: Collision Course.
The film series features the voices of Ray Romano as Manny, the wooly mammoth, John Leguizamo as Sid, the ground sloth, Denis Leary as Diego, and Chris Wedge as the saber-toothed squirrel Scrat. In subsequent installments, Queen Latifah, Seann William Scott, Josh Peck, Simon Pegg, Wanda Sykes, Keke Palmer, and Jennifer Lopez joined the main cast. As for Ice Age: The Great Egg-scapade, most of the actors reprise their roles, except for Aziz Ansari, who was replaced by Seth Green for the role of Squint.
What’s the Latest on ‘Ice Age 6’?
As a sequel to Ice Age: Collision Course, Ice Age 6 is the seventh overall installment in the franchise and is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on December 18, 2026. The film was revealed to be in development in September 2024, thanks to Leguizamo, who teased the sequel in a March 2025 interview with Collider’s Aidan Kelley: “The movie is really funny and cool. A lot of action, a lot of hilarity from Ray Romano, Denis Leary, and hopefully myself.” Ice Age 6 was officially announced to be in production in November 2024 with Romano, Leguizamo, Leary, Pegg, and Latifah reprising their roles from the previous films.
The first four Ice Age films, along with a TV special, are set to arrive on Hulu in August. Stick with Collider for more streaming news.
