Erin Napier’s Brutally Honest Confession Explains Her Entire HGTV Aura

We’re taught from a young age that success means chasing goals. But Home Town star Erin Napier says the real key to happiness? Having none. Known for sharing her life and signature design style with millions, Napier’s revelation may surprise fans who picture her jotting dreams in a color-coded journal. Not even close.

On The Heirloom podcast, Napier also reflected on how Home Town has impacted not just viewers, but her own life. When asked about her biggest contribution to fans, beyond offering a dose of small-town escapism, she said many learn about relationships simply by watching how she and Ben interact. “It has been training for Ben and I to, all day, every day, speak to each other and speak to each other with kindness. So when we get home, we still do. We never talk to each other in a way that I wouldn’t want to be filmed,” she shared. And while kindness could easily be labeled a goal, Napier believes it should be second nature. For her, Home Town has become a daily reminder that the way we treat each other matters most.

‘Home Town’ Has Made Erin the Person She Is Today

Erin’s reveal of having no goals was pretty shocking, but seeing her on Home Town and Home Town Takeover, makes sense. In work, she has objectives, but in life, she has a more off-the-cuff attitude. Even after finding success in work, relationships, and family, Erin’s lack of goals has given her a window into personal peace. “I was just doing it for myself, really. All of this was a practice in being content and happy and blooming where you’re planted.”

Having no short-term goals also meant that she didn’t have an end goal in mind. She knows that it’s probably not a thing you should say to listeners who adore her, but she has no goals, and hasn’t had them for a long, long time. Her focus on being content is centered around the knowledge that not achieving your goals can lead to disappointment. Erin’s positive outlook is what she exudes on screen. Her mindset is what makes the show accessible and consumable.

Perhaps this is why she can be goalless, as her husband has goals of her own. Her focus is on making great memories with her girls and Ben. “Home Town is wonderful. I enjoy Home Town very much, but Home Town is not my life. My life is at home,” she revealed. At the end of the day, while her view on goals may not be for everyone, her admission makes her more relatable as a human rather than an HGTV star. Part of her charm is her accessibility, and it is profoundly present here.

Erin Napier has a brilliant idea that HGTV may just want to buy.

How ‘Home Town’ Is a Reflection Of the Napiers

While the interview centered on Erin, Ben remains a natural extension of who she is. Inherently, they’re bound together in marriage, but as television personalities, they are a package. And, according to Erin, what you see on screen is what you get in reality. Their love is genuine. She loves her husband, and it shines through on the show. By fostering a beautiful relationship while creating Home Town, she has strengthened her marriage. It’s why so many fans strive to have a relationship like the Napiers.

Even if she’s ribbing her husband, who she revealed finally took the trash out for the first time since August, it’s done with kindness. By showcasing an authentic and kind heart on screen and learning that it translates behind the camera as well, Erin has achieved an accessible height that few HGTV stars can reach. Her appeal lies in being herself, but the show also sharpened her tools of communication.

Home Town is available to stream on HBO Max.
