‘John Wick’s Keanu Reeves Turns Holy in New ‘Good Fortune’ Trailer

This October, we will see a different side of Keanu Reeves. We’ve witnessed him save a dystopian world in The Matrix quadrilogy, use his gun-fu skills to get through hordes of killers in John Wick… and now we’ll see him as a human-saving holy entity. In Good Fortune, Gabriel (Reeves) is a guardian angel who doesn’t have much relevance among his saint peers. The new trailer delves deeper into his story, and you can check it out in this article. The comedy movie premieres on October 17.

While the first trailer for Good Fortune was all about Arj (Aziz Ansari) and his struggles, the new trailer allows us to learn about Gabriel’s motivations and state of mind during the story. After being responsible for mostly keeping people who text and drive from getting into accidents, Gabriel asks for more responsibility. He is then tasked with assisting Arj, a guy who is barely making ends meet and is hugely frustrated with his own life.

In order to try to teach him that money isn’t the solution to all his problems, Gabriel goes Freaky Friday on Arj and millionaire tech bro Jeff (Seth Rogen). The angel just didn’t imagine that they would handle the switch a lot differently than he anticipated. While Arj believes that his life has thoroughly improved with his newfound wealth, Jeff decides to prove to his friend that he can have a good life with little financial resources. So, how will Gabriel be able to prove his point to Arj? Judging by the trailer, he won’t. Maybe this is why the angel starts smoking.

Keanu Reeves Has Tickled His Funny Bone Before

Despite being a slightly different role for Reeves, Good Fortune is not the only time that the actor allowed himself not to be taken so seriously. In Always Be My Maybe, he played a self-absorbed version of himself, while in Toy Story 4, he lent his voice to daredevil action toy Duke Caboom — in the story, the toy is constantly questioning his talent and feeling anxious about his performance. Reeves also played a guru figure to SpongeBob SquarePants in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

Good Fortune is directed and written by Aziz Ansari, who is making his feature film directorial debut with the comedy. The actor and producer previously helmed episodes of the Netflix comedy Master of None and showcased his comedic skills in projects like Parks and Recreation. In Good Fortune, aside from directing himself, Reeves and Rogen, Ansari also handles high-profile actors like Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy) and Keke Palmer (Nope).

Good Fortune premieres in theaters on October 17. You can check out the new trailer above.
