After the official trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 teased the introduction of the multiverse in the DCU, James Gunn has come out to address whether the sequel installment will feature elements from the now-defunct DCEU. In a recent interview, he confirmed that the sophomore edition of Peacemaker will showcase two dimensions, while also shedding light on how the season will handle the transition from the Zack Snyder-led DCEU to the revamped DCU.
Peacemaker Season 2 will be ‘about two dimensions,’ says James Gunn
In a recent conversation, the DC Studios co-CEO acknowledged that even though the initial episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 will convey a multi-dimensional story, it does not mean that they’ll help bridge the gap between the DCEU and his DCU.
“People are realizing that Peacemaker Season 2 is about two dimensions, and that’s really the core of the show. But it’s not as if one of these is old DCEU and one’s DCU. That’s dealt with in a different way, very upfront in a season where most everything in Season 1 is canon and some things are not,” James Gunn remarked to Rolling Stone.
Notably, the Peacemaker series was one of the final projects that saw the light of day while the DCEU was still active. However, after Gunn practically rebooted the franchise with the recently released Superman film, many have wondered how the veteran filmmaker will address the existence of characters such as John Cena’s Christopher Smith, who have made appearances in both the DCEU and the DCU.
Answering this burning question, James Gunn stated, “I did a podcast with [actors] Steve Agee and Jen Holland. And we did every episode of Peacemaker, and in those episodes, I talk about what’s canon and what’s not. I basically chip off little things from Peacemaker Season 1 that aren’t canon, like Aquaman. But most of the stuff is canon.”
More clarity on the topic should follow after the release of Peacemaker Season 2, which is currently on track to hit the small screens on August 21, 2025.
