Tyler, the Creator only recently released his previous album “Chromakopia,” but has already confirmed another project. The rapper put out the album in October but recently released a dance album, entitled “Don’t Tap the Glass.” The music producer and sketch comedy series creator had been posting teases about this project, via Pitchfork, interested specifically in freedom of expression when it came to dancing. He made a post on X (formerly Twitter), wanting to celebrate this expression.
“I asked some friends why they don’t dance in public and some said because of the fear of being filmed. I thought damn, a natural form of expression and a certain connection they have with music is now a ghost. It made me wonder how much of our human spirit got killed because of the fear of being a meme, all for having a good time.”
Tyler, the Creator went on to say that he held a listening party for the experience and did not allow phones or cameras of any kind. Listeners were encouraged to dance, which created a truly unique experience. He went on to say:
I played the album front to back twice, it felt like that pent up energy finally got released and we craved the idea of letting more of it out. There was a freedom that filled the room. A ball of energy that might not translate to every speaker that plays this album but man did that room nail it. This album was not made for sitting still. Dancing driving running any type of movement is recommended to maybe understand the spirit of it. Only at full volume.
Now that the album has officially been released as of July 21, fans can experience the joy for themselves.
‘Don’t Tap the Glass’ Celebrates Movement
True to Tyler, the Creator’s previous post online, “Don’t Tap the Glass” is a celebration of an expression of movement. The Kendrick Lamar contemporary wanted to create a space where fans and music lovers felt free to express themselves, and in that realm, he was successful. These new tracks inspire everyone to put their phones down and lose themselves in the music.
“Don’t Tap the Glass” only has 10 tracks and clocks in at under half an hour. This may speak to how Tyler, the Creator could still be touring under the “Chromakopia” umbrella and still release a dance album meant to liberate listeners. Just as a dance album should be, “Don’t Tap the Glass” is lighthearted and fun, perfect for everyone’s summer playlist. “Don’t Tap the Glass” is available for purchase and streaming on most platforms.
