Henry Cavill just gave fans a transformation that doesn’t involve capes, Krypton, or changing in a phone booth. The Man of Steelstar stepped out at Wimbledon’s final day alongside girlfriend Natalie Viscuso, sporting a look that marks a distinct shift from the clean-cut style fans have grown used to over the years. Dressed in a double-breasted navy blazer, ivory trousers, and a tan fedora, Cavill looked every bit the gentleman — but it was the long, flowing hair that had people talking. The timing was coincidental, but also fitting, as Cavill made the appearance on opening weekend for James Gunn‘s Superman, but he looked as different as possible from Clark Kent’s usual look.
While some fans may have been surprised to see Cavill with shoulder-length locks, longtime followers know this isn’t the first time he’s grown it out — though the last time he did (aside from donning a white wig in The Witcher) was all the way back in 2009. And the timing? Definitely not a coincidence.
Collider recently reported exclusively from sources that production on the long-awaited Highlander remake is officially gearing up, with filming slated to begin between late September and early October in Scotland. It’s safe to assume that Cavill’s new hairstyle is part of the physical transformation for his lead role as Connor MacLeod, the immortal Scottish swordsman who famously declares, “There can be only one.”
What Do We Know About ‘Highlander’?
Directed by John Wick mastermind Chad Stahelski, the new Highlander is not just a remake of the 1986 cult classic — it’s a full-blown expansion. “We’re bringing it forward from the early 1500s in the Highlands to the beyond present-day New York and Hong Kong,” Stahelski told Collider. “There’s big opportunity for action… and it’s a bit of a love story — but not how you think.”
The original film starred Christopher Lambert as MacLeod, a centuries-old warrior caught in a battle between immortals vying for “The Prize.” With its high-concept mythology, sword-swinging battles, and a legendary Queen soundtrack, Highlander became a VHS-era favorite — even if its sequels and spin-offs never quite captured the same magic.
For Stahelski, Cavill was the perfect casting choice. “My selling point to [Henry] was, look, you’ve got a guy that’s been alive for over 500 years. He’s the last person in the world that wanted to be in this situation. So you get to cover quite a broad spread of a character arc… and you get to experience someone that’s trained over 500 years and sort of played [with many types of] martial arts.”
