The world of Welcome to Wrexhamis coming back to television. Apple TV+ has announced that Necaxa, the upcoming spinoff centered around Liga MX’s Club of the same name, will be available for streaming as a part of their catalog on August 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FXX. Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynoldsrecently purchased a minority stake in the team. The deal turned the production of the upcoming spinoff into a reality, after the original series launched its first four seasons.
While Welcome to Wrexham follows the trajectory of the popular Welsh team, Necaxa will bring the culture that comes with Mexican soccer to the documentary format used by the original series. The spinoff will premiere just a few months after the fourth installment of the original series made its way to television. It remains to be seen if FX will turn Necaxa into a successful franchise. If what the network has done with Welcome to Wrexham is anything to go by, audiences might be in for a treat with this year’s spinoff.
