Obi-Wan and Anakin’s Epic Duel Comes to Life With New ‘Revenge of the Sith’ Black Series Figures [Exclusive]

Only a month and a half remains until the pop culture world descends upon California for San Diego Comic-Con, and Hasbro is already preparing — and Collider is thriller to exclusively reveal some of those plans. For fans of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, the toy giant is taking the high ground with a new Black Series figure pack returning to Mustafar to recreate the iconic duel between Jedi Master and former Padawan that marked the end of their friendship and the beginning of Darth Vader. The pack features Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker as they appeared in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, complete with their signature lightsabers and a two-part stand resembling their fiery battlefield. Just in time for the blockbuster’s 20th anniversary, it’ll be up for sale at Hasbro’s booth #3213 at the San Diego Convention Center.

These new, detailed 6-inch figures recreate the likenesses of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen for a movie-accurate battle. Both the fledgling Sith Lord and veteran Jedi Knight are built with swinging and clash effects to bring the duel to life, as well as interchangeable Force hands and other accessories for posing. The platform they fight on, meanwhile, can be configured in multiple ways for however fans want to display the set and represent the terrain of Mustafar. Also included to flesh out the scene as the battle heats up is an extra lava piece. Altogether, this collectible pack will retail for $109.99 at SDCC.

While George Lucas‘s prequel trilogy had its flaws, Revenge of the Sith is still hailed as a worthy conclusion, depicting Anakin’s fall to the dark side. The duel on Mustafar is the culmination of everything the films were building up to, as Anakin gives in to his rage and, after bringing about the future he tried to avoid by killing Padme (Natalie Portman), stands against his former master. It’s an emotionally-charged battle of sabers and wills that dashes the relationship he and Obi-Wan had built up and, ultimately, leaves Anakin burnt and broken. Coupled with the spectacle of their volcanic battleground, the duel remains a dramatic high in the Star Wars canon and makes for the perfect inspiration for a figure set from the high-quality Black Series.

How Else Is ‘Revenge of the Sith’ Celebrating Its 20th Anniversary?

Time has changed how many view the prequel films, and 20 years after its release, the finale is finally getting its flowers as part of its anniversary celebration. Last month, Revenge of the Sith enjoyed a record-breaking limited return to theaters, crossing the $900 million mark worldwide after raking in an extra $50 million. Random House World and Lucasfilm also came together to rerelease the film’s novelization, packed with greater details about Anakin’s inner thoughts as he fell under Emperor Palpatine’s influence, in a new deluxe edition hardcover featuring artwork of the duel on Mustafar as its cover. In terms of collectible figures, Hasbro hasn’t been the only one celebrating, as Hot Toys also honored the prequel film with a figure of Anakin with his Sith eyes, while Lego represented it in its latest batch of Star Wars Celebration sets with a Heroes & Villains pack.
